My Poetry Book. Another ??? Re: Footers

Well, I certainly did luck out re: the photo question I had in the post below this one.

Thank you again Lissa for getting the photo ready to use, sans the logo it had.  You’re a star! 🙂

And also to Sue, that was nice of you to work on this as well.

Some very talented bloggers out there. So nice when we can help each other, isn’t it?

And when you’re techie-challenged like I am (but getting better) I really appreciate the help, always!

My poetry book is taking much too long to complete. I seem to be running into a number of small issues that are keeping me from getting this finished. My question today is about footers. I want to manually type in page numbers, possibly with some text and the page number. This is so that I can allow for chapter pages etc, that don’t need a footer or page number. I’m stumped!

I’m using OpenOffice 3.3 and otherwise, I think it’s a good program for word processing, so far at least. I just started using it about a week ago. Quite user-friendly.

But  I can’t figure out how to define footer-page numbers without them reverting back to the same text of a previous footer/page.

Why there’s no manual override for something as simple as footers, I don’t know. I read quite a few frustrated comments online about this very same issue.

If anyone can explain how to set different footer-text/page numbers, manually in OpenOffice, I’d be very grateful for your help.

Happy Thursday. 🙂

PS: For some reason, WP is not allowing me to change the text in this post to black instead of the default grey (that comes with this template, why I don’t know. Black is always better IMO for a font color) Anyhoo….I tried 3 times to make it all black/uniform but I’m giving up.

Taking up more time that could be used better elsewhere LOL! 😉

  1. I have no clue. I never used OpenOffice. but then again, I always have a dislike for word softwares. sorry, can’t help you. hope you’ll get your answer.

    have a sweet day.

  2. Hey, Geraldine, it’s so exciting for you to work on your book of poetry! I’m glad you overcame the problem with the picture. Beautiful picture! I can’t help you unfortunately – I’ve never used OpenOffice…

  3. While I was having my breakfast this morning I thought of a way to do this. If I don’t actually put in footers and just type the text (page number…reference to section too perhaps) I think that would work. It’s not going to be more than 60 pages in total. A pain to have to do it this way but I think that might solve the problem.

These software companies need “real” people working for them it seems. I don’t think I’m the only one that would like to manually insert different footer text. I read a lot of similar comments online too.

  4. Geraldine,
It’s good to hear see that you’ve come up with a solution.
Sometimes it just seems to take abit of time, for an “aha” moment – sounds like you had one!

  5. PS: My last hurdle with this book was finding a way to create a PDF without losing the formatting in my Open Office doc. Thank goodness for Youtube!

    This really helped:

SO easy actually. No where along the way did any instructions mention “exporting to PDF” as opposed to saving the file in Word or RTF and then creating a new PDF. I’m ready to create my book, finally. Woo hooo… 😉

  6. Yippee!
    You go girl!!!
