Haiku Reflections: The Autumn Leaves

I’ve had that old tune: The Autumn Leaves  “playing” in my mind for the past couple of days. It inspired me to write this haiku.

This beautiful rendition by Nat King Cole  (my grandma’s favorite singer btw)  was featured in the 1956 film of the same name, starring Joan Crawford and Cliff Robertson . Click to see the trailer  for this movie.

It was considered quite a controversial film for many years: a May-September romance, adultery, mental illness….If you like movies from that era and/or these two actors, you might want to check it out.

I’m a big fan of the golden oldies from the 40’s and 50’s  in all genres, when it comes to movies. 😉 Always have been.

PS: I found a VHS version of this movie over at Amazon, in case anyone is interested.

After reading  some of the reviews over there, I think I’d like to see it again myself.

I have not heard of the movie but I have seen Joan Crawford in a few movies, she’s a terrific actress, although I always favor Audrey Hepburn more.

hope you have a great day

  4. Lovely haiku, very eloquent. I saw this movie a long time ago when I was young but don’t remember much of it. Looks interesting.

  5. Hi SandyL, Thank you. Actually, not much for color here at all so far, it’s still quite warm and no frost in sight. This is a file photo.

Hi Brian, I’m guessing you’re an old movie buff, am I right? 😉 If you are, you might want to check this one out. Thanks for your kind words.

Hi Lissa, I love Audrey Hepburn movies too, she was amazing. I agree about Joan Crawford, she was a terrific actress and what a life story her’s is to read too. I read a biography about her, written by her daughter. Yikes.

Hi Joe, Thanks dear. I don’t remember all of this movie either but I think I’d like to see it again, as an adult, after looking at the trailer and some other clips over at YouTube today. Can’t beat those old black and whites from that era. 😉

    Happy week, G 🙂

  6. Thanks for the musical treat, Geraldine.
A lovely, dreamy tune for this season. And Nat King Cole’s version is beautiful.
Both your photograph, and haiku are wondeful.
(This song has been running through my head lately as well.) 🙂
Have a dreamy, colourful, perfectly lovely October.

  7. A haunting song full of yearning. It still makes my breath slow and my chest ache with something ‘unknown’. Beautiful haiku and stellar image.

  8. a bit too broke for now, bbut it’s good to know, I’ll catch up eventually still so many things to do, to sell…

  9. Hi Brenda, Sounds like we were listening to the same tune this past little while, on the ” mind turntables”. 😉

Hi Sue, That’s how I feel, listening to this song too. You captured the emotions perfectly.

Hi Lorraine, Not sure what you’re referring to L but thanks for stopping by. Congrats on the new home, looks great! 🙂

    Happy Thursday, G

  10. I mean all the stuff I can’t bring here in an apt, but no luck used stores won’t buy my used washer and dryer or my fridge and stove, which aren’t that old, what’s the point of having used stores? and the owner cut me off from any way of contacting him, to tell him that the ceiling is breaking down, I’m not sure if I’ll have time to even give it away….Autumn I won’t live this year to busy changing my life, but I do look out occasionally, one time I missed autumn completely, and I don’t like when that happens means I’m not living but dreaming…sometimes it’s what gets me through
