Help!!! Page Numbers and Open Office

I’ve been using Open Office instead of MS Word for quite a while now. Overall, it works just fine and the price is certainly right. 😉 It’s free.

But I do have an ongoing problem, trying to figure out how to add page numbers in a document only on specific pages, not on all the pages.

I did a search for answers online and the closest I came up with was steps how to not have page numbers (for example) for the first few pages and then have page numbers for the rest of the document. That doesn’t work either. I have divider/section pages in my documents that don’t need page numbers. I’m trying to add page numbers manually only to the pages I choose, throughout the entire document.

If anyone can help with this, I would be very grateful!🙂

Why this is not something simple to do, I don’t know. If I was setting up this program, I would have an option to manually add whatever you want in headers and footers,  on specific pages as chosen. Doesn’t that make sense?

A lot of people frustrated with this same question online, from what I read. 😦

  1. oo wish i could help but alas, i am ignorant in this department…
    happy thursday!

  2. Geraldine, not a program I am familiar with so I can’t be of any help! Wish I could!

We have blue skies and sunshine today…still chilly, but I’ll take it 🙂

  3. I don’t know either. But you would think this would be easy to put in page numbers manually if you want to. Wish I could help.

  4. I can’t help either. Guess you’ve convinced me to stick with Word.

  5. I really am hoping someone reads this and let’s me know if there’s a way to do what I’m trying to do with the page numbers.

Val, Open Office is very good overall but as I also found with Word, at times they seem to want to make something that SHOULD be easy, and turn it into an ‘ordeal’ with multiple steps. It’s just page numbers…can’t get much more basic than that, can you?

Here’s hoping this ??? will have an answer and soon.

    Happy Weekend, G

PS: Hope some of you will stop in at Woven Dreams on Sunday and join us for this week’s prompt: ALIVE! I’m ready. 😉

  6. I don’t know that program but lately it seems difficult to do simple things you almost have to use header, just for a number…it’s crazy, I hope you find out, I ‘ve never heard of Open office, but if a simple number addition is not there I suggest you open a blank page and try every option, it may be hidden in something you’d never guess….good luck 🙂

  7. Sorry I use Pages or Word I’ve never used Open Office. 😦 In Pages I do almost what Lorraine suggested; I use the footer at the bottom and center my page number there. If I have a separating page, I just skip the footer. On my patterns I use this format all the time, You can make a template with the footer the way you like and then cut and paste it each time from your template so the numbers always line up.

  8. Hi Lorraine and Ruinwen, Thanks for these suggestions. I think I’ll give this another try. Hugs to you both, G 🙂
