Once a Year Blog Maintenance–Are You Up to Date?

**Some great suggestions from my blog pal Jacqui, how to get your blog(s) ‘tuned up’ for the New Year! **

I’m working on these myself! 😉

This week, I’m providing tips for end-of-year technology maintenance. Sure, you should do it once a month if you’re active on your computer, but AT LEAST do it yearly.

Like today.

For most writers I know, life zooms by with few breaks to pause, glance around at the surroundings and clean up the clutter and confusion that grows like mold from our everyday authorial life. The end of the calendar year is a good time to do that, when many of us are blogging less, posting almost nothing, and have less commitments and obligations to fill our usual week.

Here’s my short list–one I hope is do-able during the Holidays:

  • Update my profile. Have I changed my focus? Changed jobs? Adding new pieces readers would like to know about? This, btw, should be done regularly, but at the new year–it’s critical.
  • Check old posts for grammar and spelling. I start…

  1. Happy New Year! I should do it!

  2. I’m pretty good about maintaining things…I put a weekly reminder so I don’t forget. Otherwise, I’d be overwhelmed! Hope you are having an amazing week so far, Geraldine.

  3. Geraldine,

I believe I was the last one to review Haiku Reflections. Did you see it?

This review is from: Haiku Reflections: The Four Seasons (Kindle Edition)
“An act of kindness. Forces emerging then spent. Resonate beyond.”

To me, this beautiful Haiku poem, just one from this masterful collection of Haiku by Geraldine Hartman, expresses the creative intelligence behind every Season and every Child born. It also happens to be the perfect description for her enchanting book!

Writers, think about it – is not writing an act of kindness to one’s self, in which you give voice to your musings, pondering, and reflections so that you may allay a doubt, a fear.. rejoice? In which your subjects are memorialized, embellished, or created out of whole cloth for the benefit of the reader? The motives and the characters are as varied as the changing landscapes of the Four Seasons.

Haiku are seventeen-syllable poems that originated in Japan and date back at least to the 16th century. Meant to be recited in one breath, they seek to convey a deep awareness of nature through implied contrasts, comparisons and association.

    Current times bereft.
    A pregnant past could tell.
    Letter lasered pane.

Not a very good effort on my part probably; Geraldine inspires us to try at least!

  4. Outstanding post, Geraldine! And thanks a bunch for sharing it because there are some really good pointers!

I actually do a maintenance on my blog each month – cleaning things up. One thing I really try to do is check that my external links are still valid and working.

Have a FAB day, my friend!

  5. Hi Audrey, I thought this was such a good post. It reminded me at the end of the year to do a bit of a blog clean-up at all my blogs. Not done yet but I’m getting there. 😉

Hi Kim, Warm weather on the way for the East, glad you are getting a break finally. 🙂

It’s going up to PLUS 6 here by the weekend, major meltdown on the way.

that’s great that you keep your blogs up to date every week. Impressive!

Hi Philip, Yes, I did read your review over at Amazon and I sent you an email at that time, to say thanks too! Did you not get my email? Some people are mentioning sending emails that I never got, so there might be a problem with myway that I need to look into, if it continues. 😦

Hi Ron, I thought it was too, so cool that we can reblog posts we like, here at WP. Jacqui did a great job with this one.

And again, I’m impressed, if you keep the monthly check ups up to date.

I’ve got 3 blogs and with all my other work, the clean-ups just don’t get done all that often.

Have a fab rest of the week and hope to see some of you tomorrow for Friday Funnies! first edition here at MPP. 🙂

    Hugs, G

  6. thank you for sharing this! I will be looking into what i need to do.
    Happy 2014 to you!

  7. That is correct Geraldine, add me to the list of people that did not get e-mails that you sent. Please try to resend it and let’s see if it goes through this time 🙂

I also had ticked the box below that reads “Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail”, but got no such follow-up comments; I ticked it again today.

  8. I have sent the email to you again Philip, they seem to be going through fine now. A lot of people seemed to have had internet and email issues recently, based on what I’m reading around the blogs. Hopefully, that’s all past now.

  9. Did you send it to I still haven’t received it! Soon the mystery will be solved.

  10. Philip, the email was sent to you twice, at the address you are giving above. I just checked again and the newest one is in my sent box, so it must have gone through. Can’t do anything more with this, ok!

  11. Philip, please stop writing comments, emails about this over and over. It should still be obvious to you if you didn’t receive my emails (which I have sent several times) why I didn’t review your book.

I didn’t want to hurt your feelings about your work. I can’t honestly write a positive review about your book.

You have other people who did enjoy it and that’s great. Focus on the positive! You can’t please everyone.

I have you on comment moderation because you gave me no choice. Please act like a grown up, you are giving a very bad impression of yourself, behaving like this.

Thank you for your comments!
