Using Public WiFi Safely

Have you ever wondered just how secure it is to use public WiFi when you are out and about, say: at a department store, coffee shop, public library?

I was thinking about that today and came across this tip list that gives some good suggestions how to keep your laptop, cell phone….more secure, when you are online in public places. I hope you find it helpful too.

Hackers ARE everywhere, 😦 we need to take steps to keep them out, wherever we are

Happy and Safe Browsing! 🙂

  1. Geraldine, GREAT post! VERY informative list! I very rarely use my laptop computer outside of my home. However, when I have (like in Starbucks), I’m very careful about doing anything like online banking or shopping because I’ve always been paranoid.

Doesn’t it amaze you how these hackers get your information? I’m even cautious about clearing my browser on my PC a few times a week because they can even hack those. I’ve had several blogging friends who have had their email addresses hijacked. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten emails from someone who hijacked their addresses and sent me spam and viruses. Luckily, I use a great virus protection software that blocked the viruses from entering my computer.

Thanks so much for sharing this post, my friend! Hope you’re having a super week!

  2. Sounds very interesting and it is important to be secure online, wherever we are. Good post.

  3. So true that you can’t be too careful. I have never used a public wifi service…I don’t have a cell phone…but I will be sharing these great tips with my kids, Geraldine!

  4. Thanks for the tips, Geraldine! It’s so sad that with all the great conveniences of cells, internet, etc. we have to worry about hackers…

  5. Better safe than sorry Ron. I think those are good additional precautions to take. 🙂

    Thanks Joe!

I’m finally “biting the bullet” and have a cell phone on the way Kim. I hope your family finds these tips helpful.

    Thanks Lauren.

    Happy Browsing, G
