Book Review: X by Sue Grafton

I’ve read most of the books in the alphabet/ (Kinsey Millhone) series by Sue Grafton.

Some I’ve loved (most actually) ๐Ÿ˜‰ and a few of them, not so much. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I was eagerly anticipating: X, the latest (24 book) in this series. Unfortunately,ย it fell short of my expectations.

When a Grafton book really “hits home” for me, I can’t put it down until I’ve finished it, usually in a day or two. When it came to X, I found myself waiting for the story to really grab my attention, page after page… but that didn’t happen.

I found the story too disjointed, too many characters and subplots and the stories themselves, not all that interesting or compelling. When I got to the last couple of chapters, I just wanted to “get it over with” and finish the book.

If I had to describe this book overall in one word, it would be FLAT.OK, but not up to the brilliance of some of the other books in this series.

Hopefully Y and Z will be better. I will certainly try again. But I could have given X a pass without missing much.

Have you read this and/or other books in this series?

What are your thoughts on X?ย

  1. Thank you for your interesting review, Geraldine. I must confess that I am a little behind – i.e. I read A-S, T; U, V and W are still waiting in my TBR shelf. I am determined to finish this series.
As you correctly stated, there are books in every series which just do not live up to one’s expectations. As most of them are pretty good, I will also read X, even while keeping your review in mind.

  2. Great review. Won’t be bothering to read this one although I have enjoyed a couple of others in this series.

  3. I love series and I tried hers, but it never connected with me…..

  4. Let me know what you think Karen, if you give this book a go. I’d be interested to know your thoughts on X.

    Thanks Joe!

I like series books too Lorraine and most of the ones by Sue Grafton have been excellent. But this one, not for me.

Have a great weekend and happy reading, G
