I’ve read most of the books in the alphabet/ (Kinsey Millhone) series by Sue Grafton.
Some I’ve loved (most actually) 😉 and a few of them, not so much. 😦
I was eagerly anticipating: X, the latest (24 book) in this series. Unfortunately, it fell short of my expectations.
When a Grafton book really “hits home” for me, I can’t put it down until I’ve finished it, usually in a day or two. When it came to X, I found myself waiting for the story to really grab my attention, page after page… but that didn’t happen.
I found the story too disjointed, too many characters and subplots and the stories themselves, not all that interesting or compelling. When I got to the last couple of chapters, I just wanted to “get it over with” and finish the book.
If I had to describe this book overall in one word, it would be FLAT.OK, but not up to the brilliance of some of the other books in this series.
Hopefully Y and Z will be better. I will certainly try again. But I could have given X a pass without missing much.
