My Poetic Path

My journey…shared in poems, prose and photos.

A Tanka Moment: Spring Thaw

This is a poem from the archives and my first attempt at Tanka poetry.

I hope you enjoy it for the first time, or perhaps, once again! 😉

It has definitely “thawed” here in BC, only a bit of snow left up on the higher mountains. Everything else is starting to bloom! 🙂

How is your weather?

You can read more about Tanka poetry here.

Have a Wonderful Weekend! 🙂

Word of the Week: Perception

path photo black and white

From a distance, a “time out” from our usual routine thoughts… what do we perceive?

“Perception appears to be automatic, but in fact it is a learned phenomenon. The world you live in including the experience of your body, is completely dictated by how you learned to perceive it. If you can change your perception, you change the experience of your body and your world.”

from the book:

Ageless Body. Timeless Mind by Deepak Chopra

What a hopeful and inspiring message this is.

I read this book several years ago; it’s one that I can highly recommend. 🙂

Written many years ago, but the insights and wisdom of this author still ring true.

Have a Wonderful and Insightful Week!

I’m Smiling :-) Blue Skies Have Returned!

sky photo 2 august 13

It’s been cloudy and grey for too many  days (actually weeks) in a row, here in BC. 😦

But today, the sun is just starting to peek out and there’s some glorious blue sky to enjoy up there too. 🙂

How is your weather? Any big storms where you are?

We have very little snow left here in the Interior but I’m guessing there will be one more “dump” before the end of the winter. That’s ok though, I love snow too. 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend!

Word of the Week: Grace

July 1, 11 Nelson park pics 017

“Grace is the effortless flow of existence; love and favor freely bestowed on us.

That comes when we are living in harmony with life, when the rhythms of your body-mind are in synch with nature’s rhythms.

To live in grace is to experience that state of consciousness where things flow and your desires are easily fulfilled. Grace is magical, synchronistic, coincidental, joyful. It’s the good-luck factor.”

from the book:

Power, Freedom and Grace by Deepak Chopra

When I first read this passage, it rang so true, for me. I stopped and read it over, again and again.

If I could have just one wish come true, it would be to find and continue to live in a state of grace, as described here.

This truly sums up the desires and wishes of my heart. It sounds like pure bliss, doesn’t it?

PS: I’m resurrecting my: Word of the Week, post category and will be sharing a new word each week that I hope will be an inspiration to you. Some new, some from the MPP archives and some from one of my previous blogs: Take a Happy Break, that is no longer active.

I find it helpful to have a particular word/phrase to contemplate, throughout a week, I hope you will too. 🙂

Wishing you a wonderful week, filled with grace.

Happy Mom’s Day and a Poem for Mine

Helen Ruth Hartman

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there.🙂

And a big hug to everyone who is missing their mom today, as I am.

The poem below is one I wrote for her a few years ago.

Sending hugs and kisses to you, mom.

You are always in my thoughts and  in my ♥ .

Blue Butterfly.

Finally free to fly again.
Up above.
Far from the troubles and sadness.
This world had been for too long.

You are with me…
Day by day.
Your presence stronger than ever.
Your touch, always within reach.

As you flit among the flowers and the trees.
Sharing your beauty.
A miracle of grace and rebirth.
No longer sadness, only joy and release.

As the spring becomes the summer.
May you bask in the warmth you loved so much.
Skim the lake, savor the scents, seeing clearly.
And being all that you were, once again.

Up in the blue, blue skies.
And in my heart.
Forever and unchanged.
Blue butterfly.
You shall remain.

Dedicated to my mother:
Helen Ruth Hartman, who passed on in May 2007.
