Need More FOCUS??

feature1-thumb

I recently found out about a very cool desktop app. called: Focus Booster.

It’s a little gadget that sits on your desktop (you choose the location) that you set for a specific time period to work followed by a timed break. It works great! I tried it out for the first time this week and I’m amazed at how much more productive I’ve been.

I have mine set for 30 minute work sessions, followed by a 5 minute break. You can adjust to what works best for you.

There is the option to have a ticking sound for work/break sessions. I have it on for the breaks and off for the work time. At the end of either session, there is a soft bell sound to let you know it’s time to get back to work/or to get up and take a break. 😉

I have a bad habit of sitting at my computer for long periods of time, without breaks.

Also, there’s those less than productive times when I plan to visit JUST ONE MORE BLOG and that stretches into a much longer break than I had planned, from my actual work.

You can read all about the science behind the Focus Booster here.

Here’s to productivity!

And do let me know if you give Focus Booster a try and how it worked for you! 🙂

NANOWRIMO 2013! Are You In? ;<)

2013-Participant-Facebook-Cover

I signed up for NANOWRIMO 2013 this week! 🙂

It will be my first time participating.

In case you aren’t familiar with NANOWRIMO, here are a few details from their website:

How It Works

During NaNoWriMo, you write 50,000 words in the 30 days of November.

The challenge may be hard, but the logistics are not! Here, let us guide you through ‘em.

1. Sign up for our website with that big, blue “Sign Up!” button on the homepage.

You’ll get an email validation link a few minutes later.

2. As part of the sign-up process, you’ll choose a home region for in-person events near you.

This is totally optional, but we think it’s a pretty awesome part of the NaNo experience.

Visit the NANOWRIMO website to find out more.

Are you in for NANOWRIMO 2013?

Have you participated in past years?

Wish me luck and hope to see you there! 😉

It Was a Good Day, With Lots of Sunshine!

July 1, 11 Nelson park pics 001

We’ve had a glorious sunny day, here in BC. 🙂

It brought this great Beatle’s classic to mind:

Good Day Sunshine

(click to sing and dance along. some lovely, heart-warming, funny photos in this video too)

After all these years, their music is still as fresh and vibrant as ever.

Funny how the sun can make you feel so much more productive too!

Don’t ya love it? 😉

Calling Sue Grafton Fans!

If you are a fan of Sue Grafton’s alphabet book series, you might want to enter this contest:

W IS FOR…

I’ve been wondering when the next Kinsey book (W) would be released, early Fall from what I’ve now read.

This contest is asking entrants to guess the title of the upcoming W book.

Several free copies up for grabs.

Only open until April 30th and only for US residents (I don’t like that part) 😦 but I do hope if you enter, you’ll be a winner!

Happy Reading and Good Luck Grafton Fans!

Inviting You to Join Us at Woven Dreams! :<)

woven dreams with text

My new creative prompt blog: Woven Dreams Prompts is heading into Week Four this Sunday, with the word prompt: WEAVE.

If you haven’t visited/participated at Woven Dreams  yet, I hope you’ll stop by soon.

You can read more about what Woven Dreams Prompts is all about here and why it’s a bit different (in a good way) 😉 than some of the other poetry/writing prompt blogs out there.

I’m still “testing the waters” whether I’ll continue with this new blog or not. I’d love to but if there’s not enough continued interest and bloggers participating on a regular basis, I probably will discontinue . 😦

Hopefully, Woven Dreams will grow and flourish as a great place for creative bloggers to share their work.

Here’s to our collective, creative muse! 🙂

Some good advice re: writing fiction and poetry and interesting historical facts (the Olympics for writing, who knew?) from the Daily Post at the WordPress blog. Also in the comment section . Hope you enjoy it too. G

The Daily Post

Did you know literature was an Olympic event until 1948? Of course, all creative submissions had to reference athletics in some way, and many think the quality of the work suffered as a result. That’s why blogging is such a great way to develop and showcase your creative writing – there are no restrictions or limitations beyond your own imagination!

If you primarily write fiction or poetry, or if you’d just like to try your hand at a poem or story, here are some ideas to get you started:
